A writer's Random ramblings
Hello? Dementia? Alzheimer, are you there? Is Parkinson's home? Would you all mind explaining to Science and Medicine how you decide where, when and whom to attack?
You don't deserve the formality of Dear or Mr. in salutation. Your ravages make starting a letter such as this almost impossible. Many think of you as "old folk disease." That is so inaccurate, many of us want to scream! Although we can't see you, that doesn't mean direct victims are the only sufferers of what you guys cause. You steal almost everything. The sufferer's memories and motor skills. Biological and other relatives' sanity. Money and emotional costs forced upon the entire families of those you touch in caring for them. Opportunities for grandchildren to know their grandparents fully and to have certain experiences with moms and dads. "Wait, how do we steal all of that," I can hear you saying. By making those in the sandwich generation paranoid that their parents will die while they have fun with their children. By thus causing guilt people don't know how to express or handle. You disrespect the youngest in families by making them resent the very elders they wish they could love. You tear apart friends and communities, making many lonely at the worst possible time. Please, Dementia and related conditions, present yourselves to those trying to solve you. If you're related to Parkinson's, please join their studies. Maybe Science could then figure out several things at one time. Future generations do not deserve what you all cause any more thanthe families currently coping with your effects. Signed, Affected Families

Welcome to my new home on the Web. My introduction under Author to the right does a good job of describing what I do. I'm not your typical blogger.
If you'd like to see what I mean, please feel free to check out http://www/facebook.com/Author.Veronica.Bergschneider. I review each book I read, plus the occasional product or place I have traveled or eaten. When it's possible, I add my own photos to some of the stories. When an story in the news grabs at my heart, I typically post some type of reaction. The more emotional stories cause me to compose rhyming poetry at first. As I have the opportunity to think about ways of improving society or teaching the youth using a news item, I write that up and post it. Other times, I'll update the world via short essay on more abstract concepts, usually related to one of my favorite arts or how schools in my local area can or should teach skills and ideas in classrooms to create a more productive citizenry of an ever-changing world. |
