A writer's Random ramblings
In the wake of COVID-19, many school systems chose to shut down. Some say it will be temporary, some say the year is lost. All seek to keep students learning. Online learning gives many a chance to experience what higher education could bring. However, what do people do if they didn’t learn what the youngsters must?
Homes with a teen who has seen most of the educational system can help younger ones. For some systems, where schools have teaching academies for future teachers, tutoring younger siblings could cover some intern hours. This would help both siblings, as the older earns intern or service-learning hours, while the younger gets much-needed coaching on key subjects. Parents can then contact teachers on both sides of the educational system with substantiation of what the children do on their distance-learning journeys. Others can go online and seek a local teen to help younger children. These teens could set up video or conference calls with others to coach them on performing arts or other subjects. Those familiar with Khan Academy or other such online learning platforms could find ways to contact one another and chat about assignments, much as news reporters do in reporting from home. Teens and college students certified as paraprofessionals could provide these types of online or telephone support for others needing to work on their educations. On a simpler level, if two siblings or friends can call or get together, and both practice any performing arts, they can work remotely. Two musicians can make up duets and practice. Afterwards, they or a parent could record the impromptu concert. The same applies for musicians and dancers who appreciate the same style of music. Have one play while another dances and then record the result. Sending the result to teachers could get the students extra credit or at least show signs of learning, while sharing with grandparents, neighbors, or others could provide much-needed entertainment and/or comic relief from the world’s problems. In these simple ways, children can keep learning on extended school breaks. The same principles can apply over summer or winter breaks, even in districts that don’t assign special projects. As students try the principles of remote learning, they can acquire skills that could prove useful in higher education. For these reasons, a combination of online, telephone, and in-person learning, when each becomes available, give students the best early, middle, and high school experience possible.

Hello Virus,
They call you Corona but you’re not worthy Of being among the citizens so earthly Let alone having any kind of crown Besides one in the shape of a frown When you turn the world upside down By running around The earth to every nation and country Leaving no place ever free To keep its former functionality In terms of health, society, or economy As Science tries to stem the growing tide Of the parasitic way you commit homicide And continue to grow your fires as you burn The way people gather to socialize and learn. After all, if this goes on, we could lose the teamwork We need to have in freeing ourselves of evils that lurk On land, in water and through the air As well as inside people so we can show others we care For our fellow humans across the earth To help bring about the birth Of a humble human society Brought together in unity Including the sciences and the arts In a time where humanity finally starts To cooperate with one another, Assisting each sister and brother In acts creating a pandemic of Not any disease, but beautiful love. So, as we hope you have seen, Virus called COVID 19, Your parasitic kind has no use here Since scientists can calm our fear When we leave to do what they do best And make cures for disease once they read each test. Yours truly, Humanity. Every candidate claims to want fairness in elections. Yet, in the primary round each cycle, the same states and territories vote in the same order. This leads to many candidates leaving races, especially Presidential ones, long before many the majority of voters can cast a ballot. If we were to actually chase the fairness, how could we begin, much less accomplish the task?
