A writer's Random ramblings
Have you been following this blog a while? Did you ever wonder whether short-form writings might be available? In short, yes, I can provide those as well. Rather than the regularly scheduled typical post, this week, I present 2 entries I made to the product-description category. Although these came from a specific contest entry, I can customize descriptions to almost any category from electronics to food, and car parts to education to name a few. I can make them searchable online, or for a printed menu or brochure. I can write from information you provide or research the topic before writing about it. These examples came from copy provided to me:

Winter brings dry, itchy skin to many. Others struggle with eczema and other dry, itchy skin conditions all year. What can a person do when doctor’s appointments can’t happen soon enough? Where can he or she find at least temporary relief?
Soap remains the cheapest option in many cases. Some soaps, like Aveeno, contain colloidal oatmeal. This form of the familiar grain helps hydrate skin. It can begin to relieve the itching. Soaps with superfruits in them also help. Superfruit soaps contain the essences of cranberry and other such ingredients to bring antioxidants to the skin. This will purify it of environmental toxins that can clog pores and cause itching. One round of either soap at the beginning of a bath or shower, followed by any other cleaning routines, then a second round of the soap at the end of the bathing session will leave the skin feeling clean and refreshed. Hemp lotion or balm derives from the oils found in hemp seeds. This does not contain THC, the compound infamous for making people high on marijuana. Hemp lotions, like Hempz, and balms, such as GreenHoriZen’s Green Goddess Hemp Infused Healing Salve, come in many pleasing scents. For sensitive skin, I recommend lemon or lemongrass scented ones, especially for use in the morning or if you plan to use it more than once per day. Chamomile or lavender infused lotions would provide extra relaxation for those planning to use it before bed. For best results, apply the lotion or salve to damp skin right after a shower or right before bed. Oatmeal lotion, like the aforementioned oatmeal-based soaps, uses oat extracts to hydrate and soften skin. This tends to be more widely available than hemp formulas. National brands and many store brands all make oatmeal lotion. Thus, those on a limited budget and those who need a starting point for itchy skin would do well to try oatmeal lotion first. It also works best when applied right after bathing or not long before bed. If the above ideas do not work one by one, combine them. Always begin by washing with the oat or antioxidant soap. After the bath or shower, apply whichever lotion you have. I apply one layer of hemp lotion, then one of oat lotion, making sure to mix them well on the skin before dressing. On top of this, I wear the softest shirt I have handy to keep the itch away even longer. After all, over-the-counter methods can play large roles in alleviating itchy skin for many people. Dear politicians,
Please listen to your constituents. When you don’t get what you want, we hear that the government is shutting down. This does not mean the same thing to us as it does to you. For you, it appears from our angle to say that you’re closing commentary on policy and function or maybe you’ll refuse to speak to the press to make a point. Then, you shut things down, and it looks very different. Shutdowns do not look bad for you. You still are working. Get back to your jobs, hammer out compromises. We don’t see your paychecks being delayed or cut off. At the same time, all we see is each side of the political aisle telling the other who’s wrong on what topic. Such ways of operating do not serve anyone well. These tactics only create more discord and gridlock. Good, old-fashioned compromise and civil discussion, however, will bring the chance to show citizens how to behave in a functional society by giving them good examples. Regular folks who work for the government don’t fare so well. They receive furloughs and go without paychecks for varying amounts of time. Many worry about paying their bills, or even losing their homes. School systems try to find funding to help feed the affected children during this time, but what about times when school is out? Can anyone help the adults provide for their families at this time? Many charities, after all, already find themselves stretched to the limit helping their communities before you government folks pull the shutdown schtick. Airports slow, security and safety folks there are not on duty. This, more than any wall at the border, will provide opportunity for dangerous people to make their way into and around the country. If we furlough police and other civil servants, the country will become more endangered. We could face riots, looting, and other civil unrest as people try to bring back normalcy and become frustrated in the effort. Do you want to lose constituent bases because they lost houses and cars or had to take other jobs to pay the bills? That's what will happen if you don't wake up and care about others. If you got there of wanting to serve the public, then take the economic hit yourself. Don't make other public servants lose what they love. That's the essence of the term inhumane to close things out of spite but only hurt others while you keep on doing your thing. How can one find whiskey on a budget? Many times, the spirit costs a consumer over $50 per 750 mL bottle. However, savvy shoppers and those willing to try American or Canadian whiskeys can find just what the budget ordered. Johnnie Walker Double Black, the American entry, and Crown Royal’s many Canadian flavors fall into this category. Both provide favorites for gifting and sipping, either in combination or on their own.
Johnnie Walker’s Double black comes in a tall 750 mL bottle that at first glance looks larger. The company then packages this container inside of a handy gift box. With or without wrapping paper, a whiskey loving recipient would enjoy this. The giver’s budget would love it as well, as it generally retails for about $35, fantastic among its counterparts, even in Johnnie’s brand. Double Black goes down smoothly, whether or not one chills the bottle first. My husband and I choose not to dilute the product by adding ice. Thanks to the price point and smoky flavor we enjoy, I have made a new tradition of giving him a bottle of Double Black each Christmas and any other momentous occasion in the year. We also sometimes take a shot after coffee to help chase stronger coffees down while celebrating. Crown Royal, on the other hand, comes from Canada in many flavors. Each comes in a distinctive 750 mL bottle in a small bag that can be reused later, found in a box. This makes any flavor convenient for gift-giving. Regular comes in a purple bag and would give a novice a great introduction to drinking whiskey, owing to its not too harsh, relatively neutral flavor. Mesquite, in the white box with Texas on it, describes itself as smoky and great with Bar-B-Que. This, at $26 dollars, gives the introduction to where Johnnie Walker’s Double Black stands for the curious person on a slightly smaller budget. On the sweet side, Crown Royal made a name for itself using vanilla, apple, and salted caramel. These three flavors, whether taken one by itself or in any combination, can suffice as dessert for someone too full to eat a solid course after dinner. Apple can combine with cranberry juice to make quite the cocktail. Salted caramel does not present as much salted flavor as the name might imply to someone not from the American South. Instead, it has a smooth, sweet finish which lends itself well to one identifying as a sweet tooth. Mixed with the apple flavor, salted caramel would give a Halloween style treat in an adult way. Salted caramel also works well either drizzled on top of or baked into pecan pie. At an average of $25 to $30 per bottle, Crown Royal in any flavor provides an excellent addition to or chaser for a cup of coffee. I consider the bags from this brand as a bonus, since I can store photography and computer accessories or other small items in them once the whiskey comes out. Thus, when an occasion for gifting or other need for good whiskey at a nice price comes up, Johnnie Walker Double Black or any flavor of Crown Royal can fit the bill. At about $25 to $35 per 750 mL, they can do many functions, some of which people may not imagine for whiskey. Relax and have fun responsibly with these brands, and an affinity for whiskey may follow. |
